    Interview 10 questions

    1.Question: When did you start making music, what is/was your motivation to do it?

    …started about 10 years ago, first by trying to amplify acoustic guitar through telephone, taperecorder, headphone-mics and sampling my cds using the peaksearch function at my families stereo. motivation? i guess using hands & ears as tools for artistic creation.

    2.Question: Tell me something about your living environment and the musical education?

    …never been involved in any decent musical education apart from some lectures at school. i never learned to play any instrument, however i’m using a bunch of them.

    3.Question: Is making music your profession? What is the context in which you practice music nowadays?

    …usually there’s no financial benefit from doing these thing, therefore it’s not my profession. context? depends on what the concept of the composition is.

    4.Question: How do you compose or create music or sound? Have you certain principles, use certain styles etc?

    …most of what i record is done using analog recordings, sampling and digital manipulation. there are no certain principles but awareness. the source does not automatically feed the context.**

    5.Question: Tell me something about the instruments, technical equipment or tools you use?

    …notebook, decent sound-device, rather expensive speakers. instruments: accordion, guitar, piano, bass etc.

    6.Question: What are the chances of New Media for the music production in general and you personally?

    … well, depends on how to define the term ‘new media’… talking about the contemporary digital net-culture the great chances for young, emerging artists are new ways of free production, distribution, promotion and licensing. the traditional hyrachy of big music productions companies vs. small indendent artists seems to be crumbling while new ‘democratic’ digital networks/ archives are established. there are lots of possibilities.

    7.Question: How about producing and financing your musical productions?

    … usually there are no production costs since most of the compositions are done using my private equipment. usually there’re no further costs since there’s no physical distribion and production involved.

    8.Question: Do you work individually as a musician/soundartist or in a group or collaborative? If you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?

    … most of the digital compositions are done as a solo musicians apart from few collaborative concerts featuring other sound artists such as moritz fehr. improvised group-recordings are released as ‘black square ensemble’. i enjoy recordings as a collective because of the great deal of communication involved in the process. however, i prefer working alone since i want full artistic control of the production.

    9.Question: Is there any group, composer, style or movement which has a lasting influence on making music?

    … i salute phill niblock.

    10.Question: What are your future plans or dreams as a soundartist or musician?

    … creating new advanced conceptional works, working with more interessting artists, new filmproductions, establishing the netlabel http://www.frozenelephantsmusic.com.
